Preference for payment by smartwatch in Ireland in 2022, by age and gender
The market share of digital wallets in Ireland tripled between between 2020 and 2021, although they are used far less in POS transactions than cards or cash money.
The preference of Irish Gen Z to use smartwatches for payments over other options available to them was higher than that of all older age groups combined. This according to a survey held among consumers ages 18 to 75 - with "Gen Z" here being defined as the age group 18 to 24 years old. The source claims the use of smartwatches is "on the rise", and could threaten the future use of cash or credit cards.
