South Korea: number of gig workers by type 2022

In 2022, there were about 2.9 million platform workers in South Korea, accounting for about 11 percent of the country's total employment. The number of narrow-sense platform workers, such as delivery drivers of food apps, stood at about 795 thousand. The gig economy, characterized by the prevalence of part-time and freelance jobs instead of traditional full-time positions, has experienced rapid growth in South Korea in recent years.

**Narrow-sense platform workers refer to individuals whose work is open to many people, whose wages are paid via the platform, and who work on platforms where customer satisfaction influences their work assignments, such as delivery drivers of food apps.

Platform workers refer to people who provide services through online platforms.
