The total surface area of the apartments and commercial buildings that were certified by Energy Star in 2023 amounted to nearly two billion square feet. During the past decade, the surface area of buildings that received a certificate from Energy Star has fluctuated significantly, reaching a peak in 2018, when the buildings with a certificate that year amounted to over two billion square feet.
