Between 2015 and 2020, around 46 percent of American Indians and Alaska Natives who committed suicide in the United States had a current substance use problem, with about 31 percent of this total having a problem with alcohol. This statistic illustrates the distribution of suicides among American Indians or Alaska Natives and non-AI/AN in the United States from 2015 to 2020, by mental health and substance abuse status.
