Almost 92.4 million 5G subscriptions were recorded in Japan as of March 2024. The domestic rollout of commercial 5G networks by Japan's major mobile carriers NTT Docomo, KDDI, SoftBank, and Rakuten Mobile started in 2020 with an initial focus on urban areas.
