In 2020, La Réunion was the most populated French overseas region. It was home to 863,083 inhabitants, of which 449,635 were women and 413,448 men. The second most populated overseas region was Guadeloupe, with 207,680 women and 175,879 men. French Guiana, with a smaller population, had 285,133 inhabitants.
In the last five decades, the population of French Guiana has increased sixfold, and that of La Réunion has more than doubled.
