In 2021, the return on equity (ROE) of Egyptian banks declined by 9.5 percent compared to 2016. Egypt's financial institutions recorded the sharpest decline in ROE among the selected African countries. In contrast, Nigeria's ROE experienced the highest growth rate, rising by 3.6 percent between 2016 and 2021.
