Nuclear energy investments represented the largest share of the global nuclear energy production costs in 2021, at 72 percent. Operation and maintenance expenditures in the nuclear power sector amounted to almost 17 percent of the total global costs. In comparison, the costs associated with nuclear fuel and nuclear power plant decommissioning were marginal.
