At the end of 2021, more than half (53 percent) of young French people stating that they were absolutely ready to protest to defend their ideas considered it absolutely important to live in a democratically governed country. The idea that young people's view of representative democracy contributes to political protest behavior is therefore false, since these figures provided by the Institut Montaigne seem to show on the contrary that attachment to democratic government increases with the propensity to protest. One explanation may lie in the fact that most of the young people attracted to protest are highly politicized.
