Most common food waste categories in Japan 2023
The majority of households in Japan had thrown away food, with vegetables being the most named product category. As revealed in a survey conducted in September 2023, over 38 percent of respondents stated that they had a tendency of disposing vegetables in their households, showing a large gap to the second-ranked category of prepared side dishes.
