In 2022, a total of approximately 21 percent of survey respondents in the United States between the ages of 18 and 29 stated that they throw extra food into the trash at the end of a meal once or twice a week. Among respondents aged 65 and older, the total share of people with the same frequency of food waste was about 30 percent.
