As of the 31st of December 2019, hospitals in France employed 1.3 million individuals, of which most are non-medical care staff. The number of non-medical care staff, such as nurses and care assistants, amounted to 848 thousand employees in 2019. On the other hand, medical staff such as doctors and midwives had a headcount of 164 thousand that year.
