Medical aid expenses for outpatients and inpatients in China 2017-2021
In 2021, 38.81 billion yuan was spent on medical aids for outpatient and inpatient treatments in China, representing an increase of more than three billion yuan from 2020. Although most Chinese citizens are now covered by the basic medical insurance program, many still cannot afford adequate medical treatments, largely due to regional limitations and inequalities between employee basic medical insurance and resident basic medical insurance.
