As of January 2023, Gujarat was the leading state in India in terms of prospective solar capacity. The region had an approved solar capacity of over 12 gigawatts as of that date, which was almost one-third of the total approved capacity in the country. Rajasthan ranked second in prospective solar capacity, but by a wide margin, with an approved capacity of roughly seven gigawatts.
