According to a survey conducted in November 2022 in Japan, 21.5 percent of respondents planned to eat o-sechi prepared by family or friends on New Year. In contrast, only 2.5 percent claimed to prepare the dishes themselves.
O-sechi refers to an assortment of dishes presented in stacked boxes traditionally eaten on New Year in Japan. While it used to be prepared by families at home before the turn of the year, retailers offer prepared boxes to cater to the busy days during the New Year season.
