March Madness since 1985.
The Sweet 16 refers to the remaining 16 teams in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, more commonly known as March Madness. The 68 teams are divided into four regions, with each team being "seeded", or ranked, within its region from one to 16. Unsurprisingly, the higher seeded teams generally go further in the single-elimination tournament, with over 85 percent of the top ranked teams in each region having reaching the Sweet 16 stage since 1985.
