Over 40 percent of Italians indicated in an April 2022 survey that they usually walked for short journeys of around two kilometers or one mile. Nearly thirty percent of Italian respondents used their own car for these journeys.

The source specifies each country sample consists of around 1,000 respondents in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, mainland China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Spain, and the U.S. In Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Hungary, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, and Turkey, there were around 500 respondents.
