Mergers and acquisitions in the gaming industry are often worth billions and create lots of buzz. The biggest announced video gaming M&A deal of 2024 was the acquisition of games services company Keyword Studios by EQT in October 2024 for 2.8 billion U.S. dollars.
However, the value of 2024 gaming M&A deals do not hold a candle to the blockbuster year of 2022 — in January 2022, the two biggest gaming acquisitions ever happened within barely a week of each other - on January 10, Take-Two Interactive announced its purchase of social gaming company Zynga, signaling a stronger focus on mobile gaming. January 18, 2022, saw the surprise notice of Microsoft acquiring Activision Blizzard for close to 69 billion U.S. dollars.
