Global transport CO2 emissions by sub sector 2022

Global transportation-related emissions increased by 3.2 percent in 2022 to nearly eight billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (GtCO₂). Although emissions from transportation have increased by roughly 870 MtCO₂ since 2020, they remain below pre-pandemic levels.

Since 2000, global transportation emissions have risen by almost 40 percent, and now account for around 20 percent of total global CO₂ emissions.
