In 2023, Argentina saw a total area of approximately 550,000 hectares affected by wildfires. This represented a decrease of over 60 percent in comparison to the previous year. During the period in consideration, the total extent struck by forest fires in the South American country reached a record high of some 1.6 million hectares in 2017. Argentina's total number of wildfires reached 4,100 in 2023.
