Walmart e-commerce fulfillment centers 2022-2023

Between 2022 and 2023, Walmart enhanced its e-commerce logistics. In the fiscal year ended January 31, 2023, Walmart counted 34 e-commerce fulfillment centers in the United States, three more from the previous year. In foreign markets, distribution centers dedicated to e-commerce operations went from 83 in 2022 to 100 in 2023.
The figures exclude stores and other distribution centers serving the entire omnichannel order fulfillment at Walmart.

Walmart’s secret recipe

Multiple factors have contributed to the steadily increasing online sales of Walmart. The physical store network is crucial in the order fulfillment of perishables, making Walmart outshine its competitor Amazon in the grocery segment. Walmart's broad offering of products and brands reached online channels, thanks to a growing number of sellers. Between 2020 and 2022, the number of marketplace sellers went from roughly 44,000 to 152,000, signaling the profitability of e-commerce operations.

Don’t forget consumers

Walmart provides digital-first services to enhance the marketplace business. The mobile app shows growing monthly download rates, while the Walmart+ subscription service appeals to roughly one-third of U.S. online shoppers – and an even higher percentage of millennial consumers, according to recent surveys.
