The number of new passenger cars in the European Union that emit 95 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer (g CO₂/km) or less increased to 2.09 million units. This accounted for almost a quarter of all new passenger cars sold in the EU that year. The number of new passenger cars sold in the EU that emit between 96 and 130 g CO₂/km has been on a downward trajectory in recent years.
