As of 2022, around one million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂) were captured from bioenergy (BECCS) worldwide. Should all announced CO₂ capture capacity be realized, the amount of CO₂ captured from BECCS would rise to almost 190 MtCO₂ by 2030. The majority of CO₂ capture would occur in the biofuels production sector, followed by the power sector.
