In 2023, almost two-thirds of survey respondents in the European Union said that whether the food is fresh is among their most important aspects when purchasing food to buy. For about a fifth of consumers, the brand of the product was another important aspect.
Consumers' purchase criteria for food in the European Union 27 in 2023
The results are based on four survey waves, which have been aggregated. The average is shown. Out of the 27 EU countries, 18 are included in the coverage.

Covers the following EU-27 countries: Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Lithuania, Portugal, RomaniaÂ
The results are weighted based on the internet population per country.Â
