In a survey conducted in 2023, 52 percent of surveyed game developers in Saudi Arabia said they were self-taught. 30 percent of developers said that they did not take the traditional university or educational institute route to learn video game or software development, but rather took online courses or attended bootcamps. An even share of surveyed developers attended traditional educational institutes, whether in Saudi Arabia or abroad.
