International development funders committed approximately 14.2 billion U.S. dollars to global projects focussed on tackling outdoor air pollution between 2017 and 2021. Transportation projects accounted for around 46 percent of this total, or 6.5 billion U.S. dollars, with funds going to areas like investing in cleaner fuels, electric vehicles, and improving public transportation systems.
