On the last day of 2023, there were several patients on the waiting list of public hospitals in Portugal for both scheduled surgeries and first consultations. The highest number of patients waiting for an appointment was found in first specialty consultations which were not oncology or cardiology. These amounted to 778,640. The number of patients waiting for a scheduled surgery excluding the mentioned specialties reached over 185,840.
