In 2023, Volvo held nearly 18 percent of the new electric passenger cars in Sweden. This made the domestic brand the market leader for electric vehicles in the country. Kia and Tesla ranked second and third, with 12.4 and 11.8 percent of the market, respectively. While both Volvo and Kia relied on the sale of both plug-in hybrid electric and battery-electric cars to reach this market share, Tesla sells exclusively battery-electric vehicles.
