In 2022, around 42,700 people in their sixties were heart attack patients in South Korea. They were the largest age group in the country to suffer from the condition, with younger age groups very rarely experiencing this. A heart attack, also known as a myocardial infarction, occurs when blood flow to one of the coronary arteries of the heart decreases or stops, causing tissue death. This disrupts and may even stop the heart from beating.
