In 2022, around 103,600 men were heart attack patients in South Korea. This was almost four times as many women who were heart attack patients in the same year. A heart attack, also known as a myocardial infarction, occurs when blood flow to one of the coronary arteries of the heart decreases or stops, causing tissue death. This disrupts and may even stop the heart from beating.
