In a 2023 online survey of Indian journalists, when asked whether they believe various media institutions are currently less free or more free to perform their jobs properly, 72 percent of respondents felt that news channels are less free. In contrast, about 26 percent of journalists believed that online or digital platforms are more free compared to other media institutions.
