In the United States, over half of assisted living residents had two to three chronic medical conditions in 2022. Meanwhile, eight percent of residents had no chronic conditions. The most common conditions among residents include high blood pressure, dementia, and heart disease.

Residential care communities are defined by the CDC as: "Includes assisted living communities and other residential care communities (for example, personal care homes, adult care homes, board care homes, or adult foster care) that meet the study eligibility criteria."
