As of 2023, the number of international scheme debit cards in Ghana amounted to close to 4.9 million. This significantly exceeded the number of debit cards issued by banks in the country, which added up to around 1.2 million. Generally, international scheme cards are more popular in Ghana than banks’ own proprietary cards.
