In 2024, around 79 percent of adults in the United States reported that when shopping for food and beverages, they consider whether food is processed before purchasing it. Those from high-income households were more likely to state they consider if food is processed than those from lower income households. The consumption of ultra-processed foods such as potato chips, candy, and soft drinks has been linked to an increased risk of a number of health issues including certain cancers, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes. These foods are often cheaper than healthier alternatives. This statistic shows the percentage of adults in the United States who consider if food is processed before purchasing it as of 2024, by household income.
