As of 2024, the Northern Cape had the highest distribution of female ward councilors out of all nine provinces in South Africa, at almost 38 percent. On the other hand, KwaZulu-Natal had the largest total number of ward councilors, but the lowest share of female councilors at just over 14 percent.
