The average income earned through single ticket sales of not-for-profit professional theaters in the United States fell dramatically in the 2021 fiscal year due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In the first two years of the health crisis, theaters and similar cultural venues had to close to the public for months, as the country enforced strict safety regulations to limit the spread of the virus. As a result of the closures, the average single ticket income only amounted to around 76 thousand U.S. dollars between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021.
