Download spectral efficiency, by 3GPP technology

The statistic depicts the download spectral efficiency by 3GPP technology. The download spectral efficiency of LTE technology is 1.5 bits per Hz. Network operators have a long history, continuing up to the present, of driving spectral efficiency improvements and investing significant resources to ‘densify’ their networks. The evolution of 3GPP technologies from EDGE to HSPA to LTE is reflected in the increasing levels of spectral efficiency. Historically, capacity on mobile broadband networks has been augmented in three basic ways: driving increased spectral efficiency from spectrum allocations (as measured in ‘bits per Hz’); increasing the number of sites in the network so as to intensify frequency reuse; and securing additional spectrum.
