* This indicator describes the percentage of people with diagnosed high blood pressure who are taking prescribed medication. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is used to officially track this indicator at the national level for adults aged 18 or older. For 2005–2008, NHANES data indicate that 70.4% of adults aged 18 or older and 79.4% adults aged 65 or older had high blood pressure and took prescribed medications.
