In 2017, the diversified infrastructure and financial services corporation employed around 313,000 people worldwide, some 106,000 of which were based in the United States. The firm’s power segment holds the largest share of the workforce. Following a tax hike in its home state, the formerly Connecticut-headquartered company decided to move its home base to Boston to keep payments in check. It is yet to be seen what kind of effect this will have on the greater Boston area as the move will be finalized in 2018.
