U.S. retail price of sirloin steak 1995-2022

In 2021, the U.S. price for a pound of sirloin steak amounted to just above eleven U.S. dollars. That year, the retail price of boneless sirloin steak was higher than previous years. Before the 2000s, the price per pound remained between four and five U.S. dollars.

U.S. beef production

In 2020, the United States was the leading beef and veal producing country in the world, producing around 12.38 million metric tons of beef and veal. The entire European Union produced a total of just under eight million metric tons within the same period. The United States has many cows for the production of beef and milk: in 2019, the country counted over 31 million beef cows and just under 10 million milk cows.

Beef cuts

In 2021, roughly 40 percent of all U.S. beef sales were generated through fresh ground beef specifically, making it the largest cut category. Other popular cuts included loin, rib, and chuck. Approximately six percent of all beef sales in the United States were accounted for by sirloin beef that year.
