Full service restaurant sales in the U.S. 1992-2019

In 2019, total full-service restaurant (FSR) sales in the United States amounted to just under 300 billion U.S. dollars. Over the last 25 years, the industry’s total U.S. sales have tripled.

The U.S. FSR industry

In 2019, there were roughly 33 thousand FSR franchise establishments located in the United States, a slight increase compared to 2018. Since 2013, an upward trend in the total number of restaurants has been maintained. The same applies to employment numbers: in 2019, over one million people were employed in the U.S. FSR franchise industry, increasing by roughly 20 percent since 2013.

American customer satisfaction

According to the American customer satisfaction index (or ACSI), some of the favorite full-service restaurants in the United States in 2020 included Texas Roadhouse, Red Lobster, Cracker Barrel. With a score of just over 80 out of 100, LongHorn Steakhouse (Darden) was the leading restaurant of the year. The industry's average ACSI score for 2020 amounted to just under 80.
