Number of hotel rooms in the U.S. 2017-2020, by chain scale segment
As of December 31, 2020, the lodging industry in the United States consisted of roughly 5.29 million hotel rooms, 21.4 percent of which belonged to the upper midscale segment. Hotel rooms in the upscale segment accounted for 15.4 percent of the total hotel rooms in this period while rooms in the midscale segment represented 8.1 percent of the total number of hotel rooms.
