Number of visitors to the Musée D'Orsay in Paris 2007-2018 In 2018, Orsay Museum in Paris welcomed more 3.16 million visitors, its highest attendance since 2007. Even though Orsay Museum, also known as Musée d’Orsay in French, is not as much visited as the Louvre or the Eiffel Tower, the art institution still attracts every year visitors from all around the world, thrilling to discover masterpieces from the 19th century.
A former station, home of Impressionist and post-Impressionist art

Located in the center of Paris, on the Left Bank of the Seine, the Musée d’Orsay is a former railway station, built in 1900 for the Universal Exhibition which took place in the French capital. Thanks to its Beaux-Arts architecture and its impressive collection of French art dating from 1848 to 1914, the museum attracted 3.17 million tourists in 2018. The attendance of the Musée d’Orsay has remained stable since 2007, despite a slight decrease in 2016, because of the Paris terrorist attacks. Its number of visitors has enabled the Orsay Museum to be ranked 3rd among the most visited national museums and galleries in France in 2017. The painting collection of the museum, including masterpieces from Monet, Rousseau, Manet or Renoir make Orsay Museum one of the most important museums when it comes to impressionism and post-impressionism art.

Cultural activities in France

The Louvre Museum is not only the most visited museum in France, but worldwide. France has an important concentration of national museums and galleries, as well as monuments as famous as the Eiffel Tower, or more secret like the Pont du Gard. Foreign tourists often represent an important share of visits to those sites. Regarding French citizens, it appears that most of them enjoy going to the movies, whereas 42 percent of declared to have been to the museum or to an exhibition in 2013. The country benefits from a wide variety of cultural activities, but these outings still seem to be reserved to households with an high standard of living.
