The sales revenue peaked at over 17 billion U.S. dollars in 2007, but has since shrunk to just over 11 billion U.S. dollars in 2015. In 2016, revenue of bookstores in the United States amounted to 14 billion U.S. dollars, down from 17.23 billion U.S. dollars in 2011.
