U.S. wine market: dollar sales of the leading table wine brands 2018 Barefoot wine was the top selling table-wine brand in the United States in 2018, by far. The brand, owned by E&J Gallo Winery, garnered sales of over 665 million U.S. dollars. The next best-selling brand was Sutter Home, produced by Sutter Home Winery, one of the largest independent wineries in the nation. Sutter Home’s sales reached nearly 380 million dollars.
Barefoot’s background

Barefoot wine was originally produced by the company Barefoot Cellars, in Modesto, California. The brand was first marketed in 1986 as a low-priced wine with a casual image. In 2005, the winemaker was purchased by E&J Gallo Winery.

Brand positioning

Barefoot wine is not only competitive in table wine but in the sparkling wine category as well. Barefoot Bubbly was the fourth top selling brand in 2018, with over 91 million dollars in sales. Barefoot is a low-priced wine, with most of its brands priced under 15 dollars. This price category comprises the vast majority of wine sales in the United States but also has the lowest sales growth of all price tiers.
