In 2022, the workforce at Intel increased to just under 132,000 employees compared to 121,000 in 2021. The company generated just over 63 billion U.S. dollars in revenue in 2022, with Intel’s net income amounting to 8.02 billion U.S. dollars during the same year.

Intel's operating segments

Intel’s operating segments can be divided into two strands: data-centric businesses and the PC-centric business. The data-centric businesses include the Data Center Group (DCG) and the Internet of Things Group (IOTG), with the latter focused on developing high-performance computing platforms designed for use within retail, manufacturing, and healthcare as examples. The PC-centric business consists of Intel’s Client Computing Group (CCG) which produces hardware components used in desktop and notebook computers.

Intel ranks among the top companies in the semiconductor industry

Some of the biggest companies within the semiconductor industry include integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) like Intel, Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology. Other notable firms within the global semiconductor industry include fabless companies like Qualcomm and Nvidia, the likes of which work closely with foundries such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) - the world's largest foundry - who manufacture chips in their fabrication plants (fabs).
