The German-based enterprise software company SAP SE is one of the leading companies among the corporate technology world. For many years, the company has generated multibillion dollar revenues on a quarterly basis. According to the company's financial reports, the largest share corporate revenue stems from cloud and software sales, which accounted for 17.2 billion euros of their revenue in 2016. If one includes subscriptions, licensing, and support services for cloud and software, this figure jumps to more than 34 billion euros.
As of 2015, SAP employed close to 77 thousand people worldwide, most of whom were working in research and development. That year, R&D expenditure came to 2.85 billion euros. The next largest department in terms of employees was the sales and marketing division, the strength of which is apparent from the company's continued recognition as one of the most valuable technology brands worldwide. In 2016, the SAP's brand value was estimated at 39 billion U.S. dollars, ahead of other global giants Hewlett Packard, Samsung, and Sony. Among German brands, SAP is among the top four most valuable German brand, competing with Mercedes Benz, BMW, and Deutsche Telekom.
Since 2014, SAP has partnerships with IBM and Microsoft. IBM provides the infrastructure service to support SAP's cloud software, and with Microsoft cooperates with SAP to provide tools for data visualization and mobile applications. In 2015, SAP launched SAP S/4HANA, the latest generation of SAP's Business Suite. Running on the SAP HANA platform, it is aimed at customers needing greater support for cloud or hybrid deployment and improved data analytics capabilities. As of the latest estimate, approximately a quarter of SAP HANA subscribers are using the new S/4HANA platform.
