
Coal production in China 1998-2021
China's coal production amounted to 85.2 exajoules in 2021, up by nearly six percent in comparison to the previous year. This figure also represented the largest production recorded in the East Asian country since 1998. During the period in consideration, coal production in China increased by over 57 exajoules. China is one of the world's largest coal consumers, with a large share of its electricity being generated by coal sources. It also has one of the largest coal reserves in the world.
