Annual new commercial vehicle sales in Russia 2005-2022

The number of new commercial vehicles sold or registered in Russia was fluctuant over the observed period. The highest mark was recorded in 2012 at 386.17 new CVs countrywide. Since then, the annual sales volume of such cars in Russia has been significantly lower. In 2022, about 178.7 thousand new commercial vehicles were sold across the country, marking a decrease from the previous year.

Russian commercial vehicles segment

Since 2015, the car parc of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCV) on the Russian territory has been gradually growing, and by 2023, the estimated volume of such type of new vehicles was expected to reach 136 thousand. The national brands in the segment of commercial vehicles were the leaders by the number of registrations. Within light commercial vehicles (LCV), Gaz accounted for the largest volume of new cars, while in the heavy commercial vehicles (HCV) segment, Kamaz dominated with 3.4 thousand new registrations in December 2022.

Automotive market in Russia

Over the past years, the Russian automotive industry has been developing at a moderate pace. In 2021, around 1.3 million passenger car units were estimated to be produced nationwide, marking a slight decrease from 2020, which recorded the lowest production levels over the period under consideration. However, in 2022, the sales volume dropped abruptly to 809 thousand cars, a twofold decrease compared to the previous year.
