During the survey period, it was found that 99 percent of 18 to 29-year olds in the United States were internet users. Overall, 88 percent of the adult U.S. population accessed the internet. Unfortunately, the possibility of suffering or witnessing online harassment is a very real threat in the 21st century. According to a July 2016 survey, most common types of online harassment witnessed and experienced by internet users in the U.S. include offensive name-calling, online embarrassment and physical threats. A total of 25 percent of U.S. internet users across all age groups have been called offensive names online, with 28 percent of male internet users and 22 percent of female internet users having experienced this type of behavior.
